LONDON The Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority has set up an IC design center in the United Arab Emirates with the help of EDA software provider Synopsys Inc. (Mountain View, Calif.).
The Dubai Circuit Design (DCD) center has a charter to deliver physical design services worldwide and has been supported by Synopsys (Mountain View, Calif.)with guidance in hiring staff, with management and technical expertise. The DCD office is operational and engineers have been trained on Synopsys EDA tools, Synopsys said.
Synopsys did not say how many staff are employed at DCD. According to the DSO website www.dso.ae current vacancies include business development managers with a background in semiconductor technology, "back-end" engineers and ASIC engineers. Future requirements are likely to include mixed-signal design, RFIC, I/O and VLSI engineers.
"Thanks to extensive assistance from Synopsys, this unique initiative has ramped up in less than three months," said Jihad Kiwan, DCD managing director and technology and investment generation executive director at DSOA. "Skilled and talented engineers have been recruited from different parts of the world to launch the operations of Dubai Circuit Design.
