EDA Vendors Reference Charts

EDA DesignLine

From time to time I receive emails inquiring about tools availability and comparison or about where to find an EDA product for a specific task.

Gary Smith, Founder and Principal Analyst at Gary Smith EDA, has for many years published a chart that groups all EDA vendors according to the application market segment they serve. He has graciously agreed to allow us to publish the charts. There is a total of three charts: one for ESL and SDA applications, one for CAE applications, and one for CAD-CAM applications.

A Quick Guide
The complete set of Wallcharts constitute a reference guide that quickly provides a list of EDA vendors arranged by market segments. To find the chart you are looking for follow the links below:

Analog/Mixed-Signal Design

Board Level Design

ESL Design

Digital IC Design (Front End)

Digital IC Design (Back End)

Verification

The charts are issued once a year around the Design Automation Conference (DAC). Of course EDA vendors are always working to develop new tools to support the technological development of the electronics industry. And mergers and acquisitions are also common in EDA. For these reasons we will periodically update the information with a section showing the latest available information. If you are aware of required updates please send the information to Gabe Moretti.

Changes and Updates
June 6, 2008 - In the EDA CAE chart, under the "Verilog Simulation" section, add SynaptiCAD. The company has developed and released a Verilog simulator called VeriLogger Extreme which is a compiled Verilog simulator.

June 20, 2008 - Remove Tenison from ESL Design chart.

June 24, 2008 - Replace Ansoft with ANSYS following the acquisition.

October 29, 2008 - Add Azuro to Power Design section in Digital IC Design (Front End).
Azuro, Inc. is a provider of advanced clock implementation tools for nanometer chip design. Azuro's unique technology delivers significant power, speed and time-to-market benefits and is being used by leading semiconductor companies around the globe to design cellular modem chips, multimedia chips, network switches, graphics chips, Bluetooth and WiFi chips, embedded processors, PC chipsets, and many other mobile and line powered devices.

December 19, 2008 - Prosilog has changed its name to Magillem Design Services. In addition, Magillem Design Services should be added in the ESL Wallchart under "Other ESL" in the ESL Design and Entry section.
